MAN SETS HOUSE ON FIRE WHILE KILLING SPIDERS WITH BLOWTORCH

A man in Chico, California who was trying to clear cobwebs in his backyard with a blowtorch inadvertently set his house on fire when some dry plants ignited and spread to the family's attic. Eliya Maida didn't even notice the fire had started, but his brother-in-law -- George Babous -- said that when he saw smoke rising from the top of the house, he "went crazy" and called 9-1-1. Responding firefighters were able to stop the fire by cutting a hole into the roof to draw the fire upward. Damages to the home totaled $25,000.
