A student and baseball player at Spartanburg Methodist College was arrested after deputies said he broke into a woman's apartment and tried to rape her.
The attack happened Friday at the Campus Core Apartments on Valley Falls Road.
Spartanburg County deputies said that earlier in the evening, 18-year-old Taylor Childers and some other students were at the apartment with the woman and her roommates. They said that after every left, Childers returned to the woman's apartment, broke in and then assaulted the woman who was asleep on the couch.
Investigators said the woman was able to fight Childers off, who left his clothes behind when he fled the apartment.
Childers was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct. He was being held in the county jail.
