Body found under vacant building in Anderson

Anderson police said they are investigating the discovery of a body under a vacant building Wednesday afternoon.

The discovery was made about 1:50 p.m. at 203 W. Earle St.

Lt. Tony Tilley said workers, who were at the building at the request of the owner, found the body in a crawl space at the rear of the building.

Tilley said the body appears to be that of a woman.

Anderson County Greg Shore said the body had been there between 15 and 30 days and was badly decomposed. He said the death is suspicious.

"There's a lot of debris under this building," Shore said. "Some homeless folks may have been living under this building. So, we're looking meticulously under that building to see if there's anything that could lead us to the identity, and what happened to the victim."

Shore said the woman was wearing a hooded, pullover jacket that read "Pendleton Baseball 2011."

"We believe she may have been homeless, but we also believe she may have been the victim of a homicide," Shore said.

The building was also the scene of another homicide in July 2010, when, police said, a homeless man was killed during a fight with another homeless man.

Investigators said there are some parallels between the 2010 death and the death of woman whose body was found Wednesday afternoon.
