Returning airman surprises mom at Drive game

An Upstate airman who recently returned home from Afghanistan used a Greenville Drive game to surprize his family Thursday night.

Staff Sgt. Trey Murphy serves with the Air National Guard, and just got back from a tour of duty. However, before the game, his mother had no idea. So, Murphy talked with the Drive, who agreed to be part of the homecoming. They let Murphy suit up as a player, and in the bottom of the third inning, Murphy's mother, Sarah, took the field. She was the featured speaker during USO night at Fluor Field.

Dressed as a player, Trey Murphy walked onto the field during his mother's speech. "Oh! My God," a tearful Sarah Murphy exclaimed. "I'm blown away. I can't believe it! I just can't believe it!"
