Michelin announced on Thursday that they have planned a $200 million expansion of the company's Anderson County plant in Starr that will generate some 100 new jobs.
Michelin North America made the announcement at the plant to a room full of workers, company officials and more.
"I am proud to say this new expansion at this facility is one of the lynchpins that will allow us to maintain Michelin's industry leadership in providing customers with the best tires in all categories," said Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America. "Michelin's continued investment
in Anderson County and the state of South Carolina is a testament to our proven, high-quality workforce here."
Construction has started on the expansion, located next to the current facility. Operations are slated to begin in 2014.
People interested in applying for the new jobs can visit careers.michelin-us.com, with hiring already started for maintenance technicians. A Michelin spokesperson said recruitment should begin in the coming months for production workers.
Michelin is South Carolina's
largest manufacturing employer and has invested $1.15 billion, creating at least 870 jobs in nearly two years. Last April, Michelin also announced a $750 million investment with the creation of a new Anderson County plant along with an expansion of their Lexington County plant.
There are nine of Michelin's 18 North American production facilities in South Carolina.
