Ex-Spartanburg teacher accused of lewd act with student

A former Spartanburg teacher was arrested Friday after deputies said she had an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student.

Spartanburg County deputies said the boy's parents said on Jan. 30 that their son had inappropriate communication with his teacher, 29-year-old Courtney Kay, of Spartanburg, via Facebook. They said that during their investigation, they found that there was also inappropriate touching between the boy and Kay.

Deputies said that Kay, a science teacher at Spartanburg High School Freshman Academy, resigned her position on Jan. 30.

Kay was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
