I don’t know why…but, I love the Olympics! I am not athletic, never have been unfortunately. I have never played on an organized team except kickball and Red Rover in elementary school…but, I love the Olympics…particularly the WINTER games.
I watch the skiers and find myself leaning and moving in my recliner as I charade the slopes. I lean head first for the ski jumps and just know for sure that if I were 30 years younger and several pounds lighter I could do those leaps and spins on ice…yeah right!
Anyway…I have throughly enjoyed the games and am proud of our young men and women who have dedicated their lives to such competition. Good for you! And good for us…it’s been fun!
DID YOU KNOW…..
-The liquid inside young coconuts can be used as a substitute for blood plasma.
-No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven (7) times. Oh go ahead…I’ll wait…
-Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes or shark attacks.
-You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.
-Oak trees do not produce acorns until they are fifty (50) years of age or older.
-The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley’s gum.
-The King of Hearts is the only king without a moustache.
-American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one (1) olive from each salad served in first-class.
-Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise.
-Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning.
-Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin!
-The first owner of the Marlboro Company died of lung cancer. So did the first ‘Marlboro Man’.
-Walt Disney was afraid of mice!
-Pearls melt in vinegar!

Okay so lots of us are looking forward to the BIG game!
It’s always been exciting to me to see all the new and innovative commercials that air during the game. Maybe you feel the same way…but, think about this!
CBS has rejected the commercial for a Gay Dating Site they wanted to air during the game! It’s for MANCRUNCH.COM.
A CBS spokesperson says “After reviewing the ad, which is entirely commercial in nature, our standards and practices department decided not to accept this particular spot.” The ad shows 2 men excitedly watching the Super Bowl. When their hands brush as they both reach for a bowl of chips, they suddenly begin making out.
ManCrunch told CNN the rejection is, quote, “straight-up discrimination.”
CBS has taken flak from some women’s groups after announcing last week that they’d approved a pro-life ad featuring Florida quarterback Tim Tebow for the Super Bowl.
So here’s my question for you! Was CBS was right to reject the ad? If you were watching the Super Bowl and the ManCrunch ad came on, would it bother you?
In August of 2008, North Carolina Senator John Edwards, a native of Seneca, South Carolina publicly admitted to an affair with Rielle Hunter. She was his campaign videographer, but Edwards continued to lie to us and say he was NOT the father of the precious little girl, Frances Quinn.
Now, he’s come out and admitted that he IS the father! Sound like Maury don’t I?
Edwards says quote… “It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me… I am truly sorry.”
Well, what about the lie you told your wife…the vow you took?
You’re a liar and a cheater…and have lost any and all respect you ever had.
Listen we are all human and tempted daily…sometimes we give in and take the bait…sometimes we don’t … it’s life and free will choices.
Don’t think YOU won’t get caught…in time, you will! And let me tell you…it hurts! Hurts more than just YOU!
Do we have a name (or syndrome) for everything every time we choose to act inappropriately…to sin or break the law…of God OR Man!?
I was just reading about Tiger Woods and a new report on his “addictive personality.” He has brought shame to himself, his sport, and ESPECIALLY his family. The article said Woods claims he’s a sex addict and is seeking counseling. REALLY? It was written in the story that Woods had an “uncontrolled craving for sex”.
So, is this really a mental disorder or a choice! Your thoughts!
Listen if you are self confident enough to join a Social networking and dating Web site, entitled BeautifulPeople.com then you’re self confident enough to survive being removed from it as well. Aren’t you?
Here’s what happened. The site has purged newly chubby members. They were voted out for putting on weight. Seriously..this is true…but don’t most of us gain weight over the holidays? Anyway…returning to the story … more than 1,500 members in the U.S. have been sent packing. BeautifulPeople.com spokesman Greg Hodge says it was done following “numerous complaints” against those who had gained weight. He says dismissed members were e-mailed “good advice” that included a list of weight-loss boot camps.
SELF magazine features director Sara Austin says the Web site feeds on a natural instinct for people to compare themselves with others. She says she hopes those booted off don’t have too much of their self esteem wrapped up in the site.
So is there a site for middle age chubsters? If so, can you send me the address…just kiddin!
These demons brought it on themselves and should be subject to OUR rules! Talking about radical Islamic terrorists. YES, I agree with Newt Gingrich, the former speaker, who said recently that WE in American should “discriminate” and “profile.” Gingrich said in part…”It is time to know more about would-be terrorists, to profile for terrorists and to actively discriminate based on suspicious terrorist information.”
I also VERY much agree with him when he said…”protecting the rights of terrorists has been more important than protecting the lives of Americans.” THAT MUST CHANGE!
I know that many of you may have read or heard this before…but, please indulge me and allow me to send it in hopes that someone who has not read it may be touched by the following! Merry Christmas!

THE SOLDIERS NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
By Major Bruce W. Lovely
Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give
And to see just who in this home did live.
I looked all about a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand,
On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.
With medals and badges, awards of all kind
A sober thought came through my mind.
For this house was different, so dark and dreary,
I knew I had found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly.
I heard stories about them, I had to see more
So I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping silent alone,
Curled up on the floor in his one bedroom home.
His face so gentle, his room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured a United States soldier.
Was this the hero of whom I’d just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?
His head was clean shaven, his weathered face tan,
I soon understood this was more than a man.
For I realized the families that I saw that night
Owed their lives to these men who were willing to fight.
Soon `round the world, the children would play,
And grownups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
Because of soldiers like this one lying here.
I couldn´t help wonder how many lay alone
On a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,
“Santa don´t cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, I don´t ask for more,
my life is my God, my country, my Corps.”
With that he rolled over and drifted off into sleep,
I couldn´t control it, I continued to weep.
I watched him for hours, so silent and still,
I noticed he shivered from the cold night´s chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
And I covered this Soldier from his toes to his head.
And I put on his T-shirt of gray and black,
With an eagle and an Army patch embroidered on back.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
And for a shining moment, I was United States Army deep inside.
I didn´t want to leave him on that cold dark night,
This guardian of honor so willing to fight.
Then the soldier rolled over, whispered with a voice so clean and pure,
“Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas Day, all is secure.”
One look at my watch, and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night!
I wrote this poem for Christmas Eve 1993 while assigned to US Forces Korea - Lt Col Bruce Lovely, USAF (Printed in the Fort Leavenworth Lamp, 1995)
“If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be all right I know…
I got laid off down at the factory
And their timings not the greatest in the world
Heaven knows I been workin’ hard
I wanted Christmas to be right for daddy’s girl
Now I don’t mean to hate December
It’s meant to be the happy time of year
And why my little girl don’t understand
Why daddy can’t afford no Christmas here”
Please do what you can…anything at all…to help someone in need this Christmas. I mean really do you really know your neighbors? Is 1 of them out of work or ill? PLEASE HELP!
For example…hire them if they can to do something in your home or yard. That way they won’t feel as though it’s charity! We just did this a couple of weeks ago in our home and it worked out wonderfully for us and more importantly for them !
Give them a bag of burgers, a couple of cans of veggies from the back of your pantry that you haven’t used, make some extra cookies or meat loaf, clean out your closet and ask if they could possibly use your re-cycled coats, blankets, whatever! Anything at all will be appreciated and is so very much needed.
Don’t be embarrassed …but, if you are…leave something on their porch or tell them you just bought too much and wondered if they could take it off your hands.
I know what it’s like to be in need…I have been there myself with family members and loved ones who have lost jobs, spouses, etc…and know that anything you can do will mean so much.
Please do it for them…and also for yourself! There’s not another feeling that feels quite as good as giving to someone who needs it! And you know what…we WILL make it through December!
This was a story on the Associated Press Tuesday morning the 8th of December…
“Christmas tree growers in South Carolina are making the holidays a bit merrier for troops by donating Christmas trees to military families. It’s part of the nationwide “Trees for Troops” effort and a truck with donated trees leaves a tree plantation in Pelzer today. A vet from the war on terror loads the last tree on the truck in honor of all families who lost a loved one in the conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq. The South Carolina Agriculture Department says the trees go to military families at bases both in this country and overseas. Last year, more than 17,000 trees were donated by more than 700 tree farms in 29 states.”
Well, when I read it, I thought about what it must feel like to be away from home, family and friends for the holidays…serving in some horrible place in far less than acceptable conditions. I have not had my husband or son serving during the holidays like so many of you do right now. I certainly have never been in that position…alone, homesick on the holidays, missing my loved ones tremendously! I can only imagine.
God Bless our Troops and their family who love and miss them SO very much! Do what you can for them and let them know we still very much appreciate their service and sacrifice.
