Bob McLain, the Forrest Gump of Broadcasting , has stumbled his way though an amazing career.  As a DJ, TV Sportscaster, Weatherman and Anchor his is truly an amazing success story.  Along the way he’s bamboozled so many people that he has even received many fancy awards. He was actually elected TWICE as Chairman of the Memphis Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, despite not being a degreed Meteorologist.

He started in Radio in the heyday of Rock and Roll when at 15 he convinced the program director of a top ten market station he should be on the air.  His radio career led him to legendary rock stations such as WEAM, Washington ,DC, WTOB, Winston-Salem, N.C., WMCA, New York,; KRUX, Phoenix, KROY, Sacramento, WMPS &WHBQ Memphis,WNOE , New Orleans, 13-Q Pittsburgh, WIBG, Philadelphia, WTMA ,Charleston, SC and many others who didn’t want to be mentioned.

Beginning his TV career in much the same way, he started as a Sportscaster at WCIV-TV, in Charleston, S.C. without knowing a thing about television. In spite of that, 8 months later he was named 10pm Sports Anchor at KDFW-TV in Dallas.   WJLA-TV, in Washington, D.C. was his next stop , where President Reagan was a regular viewer and sent Bob an autographed picture of himself to prove it. From there he went to WSB-TV, Atlanta and stopped in for a while at CNN also.
His  charm and boy next door looks next led him to WMC-TV in Memphis where he was converted into a Weatherman. He spent 15 years there before finally wearing out his welcome and resigning in 1999 to rejoin radio as program director/morning DJ at WOTO-FM.

Moving to Greenville in 2002 he programmed and did mornings at WGVC-FM, building the station from the ground up. In June of 2006 Entercom called on Bob to take over as program Director of NewsRadio WORD, employing his experience in TV News and Radio.

When he’s not covering the news or talking about it his wife Brenda drives the golf cart while he plays and Bob spends much of his time giving diction and elocution lessons to their 2 dogs Keegan and Miss Charlotte.
